Spiral Pottery Studio

The kiln

The Spiral Pottery Studio is run by Mary Wallace and Daniel Webb; together they produce some beautiful handmade pottery and tableware. The range is quite extensive with quite a few different styles and patterns.

The pieces range from single items of pottery right up to whole dinner sets that they are happy to make to order. The prices were by no means cheep but at the same time, they were not unreasonable for handmade work.

On the day that we went for a visit Mary was in the studio shop on her own. After we’d had a look around and chosen a couple of things to buy we got to talking. Because it wasn’t busy she agreed to show us around the studio. When we went around they had just finished firing a batch of pottery so there were two big tables full of pots ready to have the glaze applied.

Moving through into the back room, we saw the gas fired kiln. After seeing the kiln where they fire the pots we went back into the main studio where she went through and explained the different ways that they decorate the pottery which included the different glazes, coloured clays and even how they use gold is some of the special pieces.

Anyway, if you’re into this kind of thing or looking for a gift then I’d say it’s worth a look.
