The Boston Brewery

The Boston Brewery

The Boston Brewery is actually the first and so far only place where they make their own beer in town. The brewery has been set up as an add on to the Willoughby Park winery although it must be said that our impression on the day we were there was that the winery part of the building wasn’t really getting a lot of attention.

The place itself is set inside a large shed filled with long communal tables which adds to the atmosphere but also has a good outside dining area that is probably a better option on a hot day as it was when we visited. In addition to the dining areas they also have a large outside play area for the kids built in amongst the grape vines and also have an inside play area for the kids too.

As alluded to earlier, they produce both wine and beer on site as well as having a good diverse menu on offer as well for the hungry however, I must be honest; we didn’t bother to try the wines when we were there. In a town full of wineries, a number of which we had already visited we were simply in the mood for something different with lunch.

The beers were generally very good. At the time there were 4 on offer ranging from pale ale to dark larger. Generally I would try to describe them to you but in this case I took a photo of the tasting notes so if you click the picture you can see a larger copy of it and read the descriptions in their own words. Oh, and if you’re wondering what a growler is, you can see a picture of them here.

The Food

On the food front, I have to say that I was quite impressed. We had Salt and pepper squid, Prawns and a selection of dips with fresh bread to share. All of the food was perfectly cooked and full of flavour and I have no hesitation in recommending the place for a visit if you’re looking for lunch.

While overall I was very happy with things in general, the one thing I would have to complain about with the beer is the price of the tasting paddle. $12 for 4 small glasses of beer is simply too much. A similar tasting paddle in the hunter valley for instance is only $10 with a taste of 6 beers and a middy of your favourite when you finish and return the paddle.

All in all though, we had a very nice relaxing lunch and will be happy to go back. Next time we might even try the wine too.
